Return to Croatia, integration and new obrti in Split

Dalmatia Innova addresses a specific need: connecting returnees and descendants of Croatian emigrants with tools, knowledge and a local community for developing life and work projects in Split and Dalmatia.

Editorial review: 31 October 2026

Return and integration in Split

Return involves language, housing, documents, work and everyday connections. We propose workshops, encounters and connections with professionals and official sources, complementing Retorno Croata’s documentary work. The centre is in development; these programmes are not presented as services already available.

Crafts and new obrti

An obrt can cover trades, production or services; it is not limited to handicrafts. The centre proposes helping move from a skill to a sample, a first run and a project: textiles, design objects, digital fabrication, publishing and content.

Business models connecting Croatia and its diaspora

The proposal connects returnees’ skills with local contributors and diaspora contacts through design, production, communication, digital sales and user testing. Starting an activity requires checking demand, costs, capabilities and applicable requirements.

A proposed preparation pathway

  1. Define a return plan covering family, language, housing and work prospects.
  2. Identify a skill or local need and formulate a product or service.
  3. Prepare samples, prototypes, costs and sales channels; test them with potential users.
  4. Check business forms, requirements and calls with professionals and competent authorities.

Official sources for informed decisions

Check current conditions directly with the competent body. These references imply neither an agreement with the association nor automatic eligibility for support. Conditions for 2027 will only be stated once officially published.

Questions about return and entrepreneurship

Does Dalmatia Innova register an obrt for me?

No. It proposes an environment for learning and project preparation. Registration and requirements are handled through official channels with appropriate professional advice.

Does the centre award return or housing grants?

No. The association awards neither public grants nor housing. This page provides context and official sources for preparing enquiries; decisions rest with the competent body.

Can I collaborate from the diaspora before moving?

You may propose mentoring, an interview, research, technical knowledge or project connections. Scope is agreed according to resources and availability.
